This covers you for your Legal Liability for injury, illness or disease to any member of the public and loss of or damage to their property occurring during the period of indemnity.
While public liability insurance is the major concern when setting up an event, organizers of any type of event should be reminded that additional cover may also be required.
For example, all staff, whether volunteers, casual or fully employed, are legally deemed to be employees and, therefore, employers’ liability cover must be arranged. By the way don’t forget the cast!
Public liability insurance covers you against accidental bodily injury of those attending the event and damage to other people’s property, except your employees (see Employer’s Liability).
Public liability insurance is not currently a legal requirement, and you may find that your industry or local authorities have specified levels they require you to hold. It’s always worth checking with them if they have any specified levels before making a decision.
If there’s no set level, you should still consider the likely risk to 3rd parties in the work that you do.
